Costa Rica is a rugged land, the Guanacaste Mountain Range, Central Mountain Range, and Talamanca Mountain Range are the main mountain ranges extending the entire length of the country. It has several active volcanoes, (Arenal Volcano, Poas Volcano,Irazu Volcano and Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.The country’s highest mountain (Chirripo Hill) has a height of 3,819 m. The country has a relatively long coastline in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and there are several beautiful beaches, as well as a number of rivers and streams that attract specialist kayakers and rafters from all over the world.
Costa Rica is home to over 9000 identified species of plants, including over 900 different species of trees from rainforest flora from sea level to cloud forest, to mangrove swamps. There is an astounding range of floral habitats for a country so small.( 51 thousand square kilometers) With over 850 species, the bird variation is the highest in the world.
The beautiful country and friendly people are just some of the reasons why people love to visit and live in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica has a fantastic climate. Even though the country is small, the climate differs incredibly. Between the almost 4000 meter high mountains and the tropical lowland, there are different climate zones. In the lowland the climate is tropical, warm in the central valley , and cooler temperate in the mountain range.
The capital San Jose which altitude is 1172 meter has a very pleasant climate.
Costa Rica got its name which means the rich coast when Christopher Columbus landed at the Caribbean coast. Columbus actually named Costa Rica under the assumption that the land was filled with precious metals. The earth never yielded gold and silver, but the name was perfect for the wealth of natural beauty and flawless climate.
